Troubleshooting

Q1: My SoftStartRV is not working. What should I do?

A:

  • Ensure the power supply voltage is between 110-240V AC.
  • Check that all connections are secure and properly wired.
  • Inspect the SoftStartRV for any signs of damage.

Q2: How do I know if I installed it correctly?

A:

  • Your A/C should start smoothly with a reduced power surge.
  • There should be no excessive dimming of lights or strain on the generator.
  • Double-check all wiring connections against the installation guide.
  • Test on both shore power and generator power to confirm proper operation.

Q3: The RV air conditioner unit does not start, including the fan.

A:

  • Verify that the power supply is functioning correctly.
  • Check all wiring connections to ensure they are secure.
  • Confirm that SoftStartRV is installed correctly.
  • If issues persist, reset the breaker and test again.

Q4: The fan operates, but the A/C compressor will not start.

A:

  • Check that the SoftStartRV is connected to the compressor wiring correctly.
  • Ensure SoftStartRV is compatible with your A/C unit’s amperage.
  • Inspect for loose or disconnected wires.
  • Try resetting the system and testing again.

Q5: The air conditioner runs fine on shore power but will not start on my generator.

A:

  • Verify that your generator meets the minimum wattage requirement (2000W for 13,500 BTU A/C, 2200W+ for 15,000 BTU).
  • Reduce other loads on the generator before starting the A/C.
  • Ensure SoftStartRV is correctly installed and functioning properly.

Q6: My RV generator shuts down when the A/C starts.

A:

  • Make sure the generator’s wattage is adequate.
  • Turn off other appliances to reduce load on the generator.
  • Check the generator’s fuel level and maintenance status.

Q7: My RV air conditioner turns off early when running on the generator.

A:

  • Check if the generator is overloaded.
  • Ensure the generator is properly maintained and has enough fuel.
  • Inspect for overheating issues with the generator or A/C unit.

Q8: The SoftStartRV is making noise during operation. Is this normal?

A:

  • A slight humming or clicking sound during startup is normal.
  • If the noise is continuous or unusual, inspect the unit for damage.

Q9: I did everything in the troubleshooting guide, and it still will not start. What now?

A:

  • Double-check wiring and installation.
  • Ensure that SoftStartRV is not damaged or defective.
  • Contact SoftStartRV customer support for further assistance.
Q&A

Q1: Will SoftStartRV work with any RV A/C unit?

A: SoftStartRV is compatible with most RV air conditioners, but it is always best to check your A/C model’s power and amperage ratings to ensure compatibility.

Q2: Can I run multiple air conditioners with SoftStartRV?

A: No, SoftStartRV is designed for use with one A/C unit at a time. If you want to run multiple A/C units, you will need a separate SoftStartRV for each.

Q3: How does SoftStartRV save energy?

A: By reducing the inrush current during startup, SoftStartRV allows your A/C to start more efficiently, drawing less power and reducing strain on your generator or shore power.

Q4: Can SoftStartRV be installed in any RV?

A: Yes, SoftStartRV is compatible with most RVs. However, ensure your A/C system matches the correct amperage and voltage requirements.

Q5: Does SoftStartRV void my RV’s warranty?

A: No, SoftStartRV will not void your warranty. However, we recommend checking with your RV manufacturer regarding aftermarket installations.

Q6: How much power do I need from a generator to run my RV A/C with SoftStartRV?

A:

  • 2000W generator – Typically supports a 13,500 BTU A/C with SoftStartRV.
  • 2200W–3000W generator – Recommended for 15,000 BTU A/C units.
  • If running multiple appliances, opt for a higher-wattage generator.

Easy and straightforward wiring. So far have only tried it out on 110 power at home and ac ran good Will be at a campground in a couple weeks for the real test. One difficulty I experienced was the removal of the red backing on the 3M tape was impossible…would not separate. Used industrial strength velcro over the 3M tape and 2 screws to secure to ac housing.

RV Soft start

Simple, easy hook up with great customer service techs ready to help if needed! Best upgrade money you can spend on your rv a/c systems. Quieter operation, smoother start up and not as taxing on a/c units or generators. A must have for anyone boondocking!

Simple Device does the job

I'm familiar with the concept of a soft start because of my work with big motors at wastewater treatment plants. I've had problems with my AC on generators and 20 amp circuits. This solves those concerns. The videos said 60 minute install. I have a Dometic B57915.711J0 almost 10 years old. The wiring diagrams and instructions are simple and clear. But I'm not familiar with RV AC parts and did not have diagrams for the AC parts and locations. With some digging and parsing information together I figured out the locations of the terminals. Then I realized I needed a line to fish the wires from side A to side B. This took some time to arrange andxseveral trips up and down the ladder. I appreciated the connector kit provided but needed more male flat connectors. I also couldn't get the adhesive backing off. Instead I tucked the controller into a tight space and left it loose. Short of rolling the trailer I don't think it's going to flop loose or get into the fan. So it took 3 1/2 hours start to finish and I got a Green light on the first run. I definitely recommend these for any RV owners. I just got it installed Saturday before Easter. Just when it warmed up some.

Works great.

Works great on my GE 15,000 btu RV air conditioner. Allows me to run it on a 2000w inverter. Wiring diagrams, instructions, and installation video very helpful.

I bought 2 soft-starts which were delivered in 4 days. Installation was not difficult. After installation, I was able to run both fifth-wheel air conditioners using a Honda 2200 generator.
