Below are many troubleshooting tips and information.

SoftStart Wellpump

Power and Connection Issues

Q1: The unit does not turn on. What should I do?

A: Verify that the power supply is properly connected.

Check that the circuit breaker or fuse is not tripped.

Ensure correct wiring according to the installation guide.

Confirm voltage compatibility (240V).

Q2: The LED indicators are not lighting up. What could be the issue?

A: Ensure proper wiring and secure connections.

Check for a blown fuse or tripped breaker.

Confirm power is reaching the connection terminals.

Startup and Performance Issues

Q3: My well pump still experiences high inrush current when tested with a clamp meter.

A:  Double-check wiring connections.

Verify the SoftStart Well Pump is securely grounded.

Ensure the correct model is used for your system (SSWP is for ½ to 3 ½ HP 240v Systems)

You could be getting the benefit of reduced in-rush without the clamp meter being able to detect it.

Most clamp meters cannot detect the in-rush current drop at is happens
in milliseconds. There are special in-rush clamp meters for this type of
testing.  If the green light is on and
the pump is working, your unit is working fine.

Q4: My generator shuts down when starting my well pump.

A:  Ensure the 240v generator output meets the minimum wattage requirement (typically 3,000 Watts).

Check that the generator is properly grounded.

Q5: My system runs fine on electric grid power but struggles with a generator.

A: Confirm that the generator provides stable voltage without excessive fluctuation.

Reduce the load by turning off other appliances.

Try resetting the generator and restarting the system.

Installation and Wiring Issues

Q6: The system does not recognize the SoftStartWellPump. What should I do?

A: Verify that all connections match the wiring diagram exactly.

Recheck wiring and refer to installation guides.

Ensure the Ground connections are properly installed.

Q7: My Well Pump worked before installation, but now it willnot start.

A: Check for any loose or disconnected wires.

Temporarily remove the SoftStart Well Pump and reconnect the
system to its original wiring to test.

Operational Problems

Q8: My well pump keeps tripping the breaker after installation.

A: Verify that the breaker size matches the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Ensure that all wires are tightly connected and installed correctly.

Check if other high-power appliances are running on the same circuit.

Q9: The SoftStart Well Pump unit is making a clicking noise. Is this normal?

A: A soft clicking sound is normal during operation.

If clicking is continuous and the system is not starting, check wiring and power supply.

Error Indicators and Fault Codes

Q10: The LED is flashing, but the system does not start. What should I do?

A: Check the troubleshooting section of the manual for LED fault patterns.

Look for error codes from the system and reset if necessary.

Power cycle the system by turning off the breaker for 5 minutes before restarting.

Performance Optimization

Q11: The system sometimes hesitates before starting. What causes this?

A: A slight delay is normal as the SoftStart WellPump optimizes power flow.

If hesitation is prolonged, inspect wiring and ensure all connections are secure.

Environmental and Weather Concerns

Q12: My SoftStart WellPump Unit is installed outdoors. Does it need additional protection?

A: The unit is IP65-rated and weather-resistant, but it is not completely waterproof as in working underwater.

For prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or heavy rain, consider additional shielding.

Q13: Can extreme temperatures affect performance?

A: The SoftStart Well Pump operates in temperatures ranging
from -40°F to 185°F (-40°C to 85°C).

In extreme cold or heat, check for secure and insulated
wiring connections.

Q14: My Well Pump turns off early when running on the generator.

A:  Check if the generator is overloaded.

Ensure the generator is properly maintained and has enough fuel.

Inspect for overheating issues with the generator.

Q15: I did everything in the troubleshooting guide, and it still will not start. What now?

A:  Double-check wiring and installation.

Ensure that SoftStart Well Pump unit is not damaged or defective.
